Learning is key for adapting to the future
Meet John Riesenfeld, a dedicated "Teamworkian" at heart. From his early teaching days, he was intrigued by the potential of digital technology in education. Now, as a Learning Advisor at Aleido since 2018, he gets to use his learning knowledge to help people navigate in a rapidly evolving world.
I have always been interested in learning and its many aspects. My background is in teaching, and I decided I wanted to be a teacher when I was still in school.
One person that influenced this decision was my history teacher. He gave us a picture of a church on a test that we were to identify. This picture had probably been copied at least 100 times, resulting in the picture being almost completely black. When we commented on this, he replied “well, it was the dark Middle Ages after all”. In retrospect, quite a witty comment, but at the time I thought that there must be a better way to do this.
The basics remain the same
After graduating from university, I worked at an upper secondary school and soon started using different digital tools in my teaching. I wanted to explore the possibilities of digital technology in the classroom.
Joining Aleido in 2018 broadened my perspective on learning. While adapting my knowledge of upper secondary school education to cater to adult learners was initially challenging, I realized that the basics remain the same: understanding the purpose of learning, applying acquired knowledge, and reflecting on what you learn.
Working with different customers in my role is always interesting and sometimes challenging. Over the years I have learned that the most important skill is to be able to listen to the customer and interpret what they say. Often, the challenge lies in helping customers distinguish between what they want and what they genuinely need.

Learning is key
I firmly believe that we need to be strategic partners with our customers rather than order takers. Yes, it is easier to just give the customer what they want but in the long run it is better to give them what they need. That is the key to delivering increased value leading to a satisfied customer.

Learning and AI
Our field of learning connects to many other interesting fields: psychology, human behavior, motivation, UX, organizational culture to name just a few. I am very happy to be a part of Aleido’s AI initiative and explore the possibilities of our AI assistant helping us create better and more effective learning solutions.
Something that I think about from time to time is the intrinsic value of learning. Should we learn for the sake of learning, or should we learn because we need to perform a task? I will leave the answer to that hanging.
