THE TRAINING NEED
Action Breaks Silence (ABS) is an educational charity that was established to create a world free from violence against women and girls (VAWG) through the delivery of programmes in school settings. Their approach is to engage, educate and empower all members of the school community to change mindsets and behaviour.
In addition to their existing network of trainers, they were starting to recruit sixth and lower sixth form students to deliver the Primary School Programme. They were looking for e-learning modules to complement the face-to-face training and support new trainers.

Specific requirements of the e-learning included:
- A set of six core Train the Trainer modules to provide fundamental knowledge about topics such as communication skills and safeguarding.
- A further nine modules specific to Phase 1 of the Primary School Programme, each covering one of the boys’ and girls’ sessions.
- A short assessment at the end of each module.
- Appealing, bite-sized modules that would resonate with the young target audience.
OUR BESPOKE LEARNING SOLUTION
We worked with ABS to understand the programme, its aims and target audience, and then designed the material based on content both provided and created in collaboration with the customer. Building upon the success of our previous work for ABS on the Youth Ambassador Programme e-learning, we adopted similar branding and used the same responsive format. Each microlearning module provides learners with clear explanations and practical guidance either on a core knowledge topic or on the underpinning concepts and activities for a training session.
A varied combination of interactive screens, videos and activities keep learners engaged and thinking about how the concepts will apply to them when they train. Sharing of personal experiences from other trainers or specialists personalises the content and brings it to life. A short, scored assessment at the end of each module determines successful completion.
We used illustrative graphics and iconography in keeping with the brand, material from the programme and the agreed look and feel. We were careful to ensure diversity in the imagery and avoid stereotyping, either in the graphics or text.
Further resources, linked in the content or accessed through an icon on screen, enable learners to find out more on the topics. A Glossary also provides a definition for terms and acronyms.
