THE TRAINING NEED

Action Breaks Silence (ABS) is an educational charity that was established to create a world where women and girls can live their lives free from the fear of gender-based violence (GBV) and the threat of such violence.

The Youth Ambassador Programme (YAP) is part of the ABS Community Intervention and is designed to raise awareness of gender-based violence, specifically in youth relationships. This is achieved by engaging, educating and empowering through youth peer-led sessions, in secondary schools.

ABS were looking for a partner to provide both an e-learning platform and modules that would support young people to take social action, gain an understanding of these issues and promote real change in their communities.

Specific requirements of the e-learning included:

Five modules to cover an introduction and the specified termly timetable.
E-learning development of 60 minutes.
Inclusion of ABS-created videos and recap questions in the the modules.
A colourful and appealing look and feel suitable for the young target audience.

OUR BESPOKE LEARNING SOLUTION

Working with the content from the Youth Ambassador Manual and the ABS videos, we designed the modules that take learners on a journey from understanding ABS and its mission and values, through each of the four pillars and onto explaining and planning their next steps as a Youth Ambassador for each term.

The modules are logically structured, easy to navigate and clearly written in a friendly tone of voice. Learners are engaged through interactive screens, that are bright and appealing to look at and include interactive screens that engage learners. Videos and scenarios share experiences of other Youth Ambassadors and provide practical demonstrations, best practice and examples that bring the content to life. Regular and varied activities check understanding and encourage personal reflection. Notes from the reflection activities can be saved and downloaded for discussion with peers.

At various points in the modules, learners can select links to useful templates and are signposted to other optional e-learning on the platform for additional training support. They can also access further resources through the icon on the screen.

The modules are deployed on a version of our Svelte platform, which has been fully customised for ABS. With its multi-tenancy structure, schools are able to administer and run reports on their own learners.
