Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies during Infectious Disease Outbreaks

Illustrative and responsive e-learning to improve Infant and Child Feeding in Emergencies.

THE TRAINING NEED

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed a lack of guidance and resources around infant and young child feeding (IYCF) during infectious disease outbreaks. In response, the READY initiative (READY) and IFE Core Group identified critical issues surrounding conflicting recommendations and ill-informed decision making when it came to IYCF practices.

To help improve knowledge the IFE Core Group commissioned a set of infographics, based on the Operational Guidance on Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (OG-IFE). To further bolster this provision, READY commissioned an additional e-learning course, that would build upon the content laid out in the infographics, and support nutrition program managers, technical advisors and practitioners working in outbreak preparedness and response in humanitarian settings.

Specific requirements of the e-learning included:

One e-learning course, including bespoke animation and embedded audio.
A responsive solution which will be available to all on the READY learning platform.

OUR BESPOKE LEARNING SOLUTION

Our bespoke solution consists of a single module, that builds upon the two existing IYCF infographics, allowing for greater elaboration and exploration of the subject matter.

Built in Adapt, this bespoke e-learning course is fully responsive, allowing it to be accessed on a number of devices, a key requirement given the geographical needs of the target audience.

Due to the sensitive nature of the content, we took an illustrative approach to graphics; showcasing a range of different circumstances and situations that mothers, caretakers and humanitarian staff would find themselves in.

Alongside a wide range of interactive elements, the content was brought to life through the use of visually appealing scenarios and animation. Enabling for the learner to explore the subject matter in a real-world setting.

I was impressed by the quality of the course in general, but I don't think I ever mentioned how much I appreciated the character images so wanted to say that.
