NHS Education Scotland – Enhanced Psychological Practitioner training (EPP)
Blended training to enable delivery of interventions for mild to moderate difficulties in adult patients.
The training need
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) had identified a gap in mental health support for patients in Scotland. They therefore sought a partner to assist in developing a certificate-level blended training scheme to create a new workforce of psychological practitioners capable of delivering high-quality, evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate difficulties in adult patients.
NES commissioned Aleido to develop effective digital training which would be used as prework and to support face-to-face sessions.

Specific requirements of the e-learning included:
- Effective digital training that would be used as prework and support face-to-face sessions.
- Responsive so the course could be seamlessly accessed across a broad range of devices.
Our bespoke learning solution
The training is structured as a blended course and is designed to be delivered over multiple weeks. Each module begins with interactive digital pre-work, which is followed by face-to-face workshops. Because learners access the digital training on their own devices, it is important that the modules are responsive and can be accessed seamlessly across a broad range of devices.
We designed an attractive and intuitive interface that works effectively across all agreed devices, with a clean, uncluttered and modern design consistent with NES branding. It has a concise and flexible navigational structure that enables learners to access content quickly and dip in and out at their convenience.
The overall course duration (approximately 24 hours of digital material), complex content and sensitive material challenged our learning designers to find ways to maintain learner attention and interest through interactive exercises and activities that are appropriate to the target audience and subject matter.
A key part of our solution is the inclusion of directed learning exercises throughout. Answers that learners submit during these activities are collected online in a progressive ‘reflective log’. This log is then transformed into a resource document that learners can download and/or print off to take to the next workshop and submit as part of a portfolio at the end of their training. This ensures continuity between the digital modules and the later face-to-face sessions.
