SEND instructor training
Creating a bespoke and responsive e-learning course to inspire and educate trainers in inclusive practices regarding SEND.
THE TRAINING NEED
The Bikeability Trust had a CPD training requirement for cycle instructors who train children registered with SEND (Special educational needs and disabilities).
Instructors needed to be confident and have the necessary underpinning skills and knowledge to do the job to a recognised standard. A decision was taken to develop a new online and certificated CPD course.
Aleido was commissioned to provide both the design and development of a responsive e-learning module and a customised deployment platform based on their Svelte learning management system.

Specific requirements of the e-learning included:
- Six e-learning modules with a combined duration of 90 minutes, including bespoke videography and photography.
- Bespoke illustration, photography and videography based that generates an immersive learning experience.
- A customised deployment platform based on their Svelte learning management system.
OUR BESPOKE LEARNING SOLUTION
Aleido designed and developed a responsive e-learning solution to educate, engage and inspire trainers in inclusive training practices, providing an overview of what SEND is, potential rider needs and what adaptations can be made to facilitate rider requirements.
Due to a wide target audience and broad profile, the usability and navigation of the course was designed to be intuitive and the interface is clean and uncluttered. The content was written to be easy to digest and accessible for all – regardless of their prior experience or knowledge of SEND provision.
There’s a variety of imagery throughout the module, comprising a mix of illustration and photography. A key part of the design was the use of videographer and photographer to capture a real instructor and a group of SEND riders within a planned Bikeability session. These images and videos are embedded into the training to strengthen learner confidence and provide examples of inclusive training in action.
Throughout the learning, learners apply their knowledge to different scenarios as a means of raising their confidence and broadening their understanding of potential situations they could face as instructors.
The course is responsive, enabling learners to access it seamlessly via PCs, tablets, laptops and smartphones, and learners can also download a personalised resource at the end of the training to help with their own CPD.
