An Academic's Guide to Medtech Translation
Aleido created an open access digital learning package for The University of Leeds, aimed at supporting academics in translating their research into marketable opportunities.
The training need
The University of Leeds developed an open-access digital learning package to help academics translate their research into marketable opportunities, fostering innovation and enhancing real-world impact.
The Medical Technologies IKC aims to convert academic ideas into functioning, new, cutting-edge medical technologies for commercial and clinical applications. With funding to this programme at UoL finished, there was a requirement to offer translation training to academics based in higher education or research institutions. This would support and enable academic research to be developed into devices and products that help fight disease and improve healthcare.
The aim of the training is to inspire and provide learners with the knowledge to confidently translate their work into a product or device that may result in benefit to patients.
Specific requirements of the e-learning included:
- A two-hour e-learning course, including animation, some pre-existing video, as well as new video content.
- A responsive solution which will be available to all on the UoL website.
Our bespoke learning solution
Our learning solution transformed UoL’s comprehensive technical content into an engaging and easily navigable module by using a clearly defined menu that provides an ‘open toolkit’ feel. The professional target audience can either work through the learning sequentially or access individual topics when required. Development using Articulate Rise delivered a modern and clean product with a ‘website’ feel, using a parallax scroll functionality that seamlessly guides learners through the content.
The graphics and layout were designed to be visually appealing while retaining a focus on the text in a simple and well-defined structure. Screen interactions build engagement and break up large and complex sections of information into logical blocks.
Animations were developed to explain key concepts in a clear and engaging way. Several videos, both existing and developed for the learning, are interspersed at relevant points. This works well in varying the delivery while also bringing in experts to share their experience and expertise in a more personal way.

I just wanted to feed back that the community has responded really positively to the resource, and it has been shared by some really high-profile stakeholders (some independently, which is great).
The project management by Bryony was the best I have experienced and undoubtedly was the reason it was delivered on time and budget without stress (on our side anyway!) … our suppliers could learn a lot from Aleido. I certainly did!
