Learning-as-a-Service for the drone industry
How do you plan for the present that looks – and sounds – like the future? As part of the Aero EDIH project, Aleido has developed both digital training courses for drones and a smart distribution solution.
DIGITAL TRAINING ON NEXT-GENERATION AVIATION
Aero EDIH is a project within the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) – part of the Commission's DIGITAL programme. The aim is to develop digitalisation of the drone industry and electric aviation through initiatives in areas like cyber security, AI and training.
PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION IN THE SAME DELIVERY
In addition to creating digital training solutions, we have developed Aero EDIH Academy, a tailor-made LMS based on a simplified version of Totara. The system allows us to (on behalf of Aero EDIH) create creative training solutions, produce and distribute content, and report and follow up on results in a simple and cost-effective way.
Our delivery in short
- A series of interactive training courses aimed at different target groups.
- A tailor-made solution in Totara LMS where we have simplified all distribution, follow-up and administration.
The collaboration has been a real pleasure in all phases, from the development of ideas and scripts to production and finally follow-up and admin in the LMS.
- Jan-Olof Ehk, Project Manager Aero EDIH
On behalf of Aero EDIH, we have developed three digital training courses on topics related to drones:
A course on how to plan for air mobility in urban environments, taking into account the noise from drones and how residents perceive it. The course also introduces a planning and simulation tool.
A course on how local authorities make sure that all drone operations are conducted safely and legally.
A course on how to navigate a rather bureaucratic and complicated regulatory framework in order to carry out a drone operation in an EU Member State other than your own.

An inclusive and clear path through laws and regulations
In Cross Border Operations, we needed to find a way to make bureaucratic regulations interesting, so that users would not lose heart but instead feel that they were being guided along an easily accessible path.
The client was clear that the majority of the people appearing in the images - preferably all of them - should be women. Instead of using existing images, which are often male-dominated, we chose to build strong concepts with graphics that communicate gender equality, environmental responsibility and social values.
graphics that matter
Graphics and text complement each other in the courses, so that the graphics are not merely decorative but add value.
Drones in municipal and regional operations has been given warm pastel colours and a recurring municipal building where participants 'meet' colleagues and hear their stories. Photos show images of nature, most of them illustrating how drones carry out tasks for the municipality for the good of society. In cases where images show people, most of them are women.

Noise is tied together by a graphic style based on sound waves, both decorative and informative. This gives it a certain technical feel, but at the same time a soft and warm aesthetic.

Cross Border Operation needed to include many screenshots and legal texts. There are no people in the images, so to make the training more engaging, we created a style that starts with a short animated intro film in which a person flies over a border in the form of a road-shaped obstacle. The illustration of the border is then used throughout the course to remind the participant of the border they must cross, but also as a coherent element in the training.

The project manager, scriptwriters and graphic designers have been very responsive to our sometimes quite complex needs and the limited time we have been able to devote to the work. In addition to Aleido's expertise and helpfulness, the process itself has been very enjoyable, which is often underestimated.
